A grassroots movement that appears to have begun in the United States in 2005 and has spread through-out Canada has seen a recent resurgence via a Facebook event posting by Paul Moorehead Jr. In the U.S., people are encouraged to show that they are a “RED-BLOODED” American by wearing something red. For Canada, the color transfers seamlessly as red is a predominate symbolic color.
Moorehead’s (re)posting includes a heart-touching story about a little girl’s encounter with soldiers at an airport. The story provokes many people to tears, so read it if you dare. It begins…
“Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen…”

What first caught my attention about Moorehead’s Facebook re-post was this captivating photo of a soldier parting or reuniting with his daughter. Once I read the story, I was caught, hook, line and sinker. So I shared the post on Steven Joseph Media Group, on my FB personal page and on Twitter.
What is also impressive is the amount of people showing support by joining the page in lightning-speed numbers! One evening I witnessed 1,000 people sign-up in less than ten minutes — several times over and over! When I joined, the count was 160,000. Two days later, the number was surpassing 428,000!
Southwest Airlines was mentioned in the post as also lending support. Research shows that their involvement began in April 2007. More From SWA.
Friends, thousands of our North American brothers and sisters have chosen to potentially lay down their lives – daily - to help protect us, our interests, our freedom and the freedom of others. We may not all agree on the politics that put our men and women in harm’s way, but we can agree to show them support. Wearing red on Friday’s is a way to visually demonstrate our solidarity.
